WELCOME BACK!!

As of Wednesday, September 6 our school has sprung back to life with the sights and sounds of about 330 students and more than 50 faculty and staff members. I know it will be a year of new discoveries, opportunities, connections, and friendships. These opening weeks have been filled with the hustle and bustle of learning new routines and schedules, and becoming familiar with new teachers and classmates. The beginning is truly one of the most exciting times of the school year!
At L.P.E.S. we provide a safe, supportive learning environment for our students and staff, while promoting collaboration and communication with parents and the community. We welcome your comments and suggestions, as we are always looking for ways to improve, and to involve parents in our teaching and learning program.
On behalf of the staff at L.P.E.S. I would like to extend my best wishes for a challenging, yet rewarding school year!

NEW STAFF
We welcome Mrs. Natalee Datta, who will be our new teacher in second grade, and Mrs. Mandy Mihill, Mrs. Polly Sullivan, and Mrs. Judy Waldy who will be joining our teaching assistant staff. Ms. Erica Rock will be our interim School Counselor for the year while Mrs. Michelfelder is on sabbatical leave.

*** EMERGENCY DRILL ***

There could be times during the school year when it may become necessary to evacuate all students and personnel from not only the school building but also from school campus as well. As part of our overall school district safety plan, in this event the Olympic Training Center will become our emergency center.
Each year we practice this drill at least once to make sure things will run smoothly if we do have to evacuate. On Friday, September 22 we will be doing just that. At some point in the school day we will execute the emergency evacuation drill, or as we call it at school, the “Leave the Building Safety Drill.”
At the signal, buses will arrive at the elementary building and students will get to practice the calm, orderly evacuation of the building and premesis. All students and staff will be transported to the Olympic Training Center and wait patiently with their teachers and homerooms for the signal to reboard the buses back to school. We have done this many times before, and the Training Center people know exactly how to accommodate our large group on a moment’s notice.
For more details on our evacuation drill please see pages 16 & 17 of the 2006-2007 Lake Placid Elementary School Handbook, or call Principal Rick Retrosi at 523-3640, ext. 4502.

PLAYGROUND CLOSED ON SATURDAY, 9/16

Our Elementary School playground will be closed this Saturday, September 16 so that our maintenance staff can sand and seal it. This will help insure our students’ safety, and also insure many more years of fun.
