Performance indicators evident in this exercise:

1-b-Reveal through their work a broad investigation of a variety of individual ideas and at least one theme explored imaginatively and in depth

1-d-Use selected mediums and techniques and select the most appropriate mediums and techniques to communicate their ideas.

2-a-Develop Commencement Portfolios that show proficiency in one or more mediums and skill in using and manipulating the computer and other electronic media.

2-b- Prepare a portfolio that meets the adminission requirements of selected institutions.

3-c-Give evidence in their Commencement Portfolios that they researched a theme in-depth and that in their research they have explored the ways the theme has been expressed in other disciplinary forms.

4-a- present a body of work within their portfolio that reflects the influence of a variety of cultural styles.


Exercise Description

Brief Summary:

After researching their chosen artist, students will "recreate" an image done by their artist on the computer using Clarisworks 5.0 painting software.

Materials:

Image done by choosen artist used for replication

Software: Painting Clarisworks 5.0

Context: prior learning, total curriculum, learning in other disciplines, age appropriate learning.

Research of chosen artist utilizing resources such as the computer lab (internet)

library(books, encyclopedia, periodicals) handout with lists of artists, basic composition, principles of design: Variety, Unity, Movement, Balance, Emphasis and Rhythm.


Student Activity:

Students will choose one image that their chosen artist has done. They will then "recreate" that image using their knowledge and skills of specific tools and skills learned in the Clarisworks 5.0 painting program.

Knowledge Guiding Practice: ( general knowledge, multiple pathways to learning, problem solving abilities, critical thinking, cultural investigation) which contribute to a deeper understanding of the arts.

1.) Handout with examples of prior " Artist Replicatons" done by art students.

2.) Critique of "replications"

3.) Self-evaluation of computer image

4.) Research of style, biography and techniques of chosen artist.


Assessment Tools and Evidence:

Tools: ongoing evaluations, Rubrics, self-evaluations

Evidence: Actual artwork, self-evalutions

Teacher Reflection / Followup: Final Critique and evaluation of project Rubrics.
