COMMUNITY:
Lake Placid is a rural community set in New York's beautiful Adirondack Mountains.
Home to the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games, Lake Placid today remains a mecca for national and international athletic competitions. Tourism provides residents with year-round employment, and students with a diversity of influences rarely found in such a small community.

A total of 22 credits, to include the following:
4.5 English, 4 Social Studies, 3 Science, 3 Math, 2 Physical Education,
1 Fine Arts, 0.5 Health, plus additional units necessary for a total of 22.
Students select two major areas which require additional course work.
Successful completion of New York State Regents Exams or Regents Competency Exams are also required for graduation.
Graduates receive either a LPHS local diploma, a New York State
Regents Diploma, Regents with Advanced Designation, or a Regents Diploma With Honors.
*Starting with the class of 2008 an additional required 1/2 credit must be earned through Service Learning.
Students successfully completing full-year courses receive one unit of credit, except for advanced placement courses, which earn 1.5 credits each. Grades are recorded on a numerical scale, from 0-100%.
Grade equivalents are the following:
A+ 95-100 C+ 75-79 S Satisfactory (pass) A 90-94 C 70-74 U Unsatisfactory (fail) B+ 85-89 D 65-69 B 80-84 F 64 and below
GRADE AVERAGE, CLASS RANK, AND WEIGHTING SYSTEM:
Grade averages are reported as an unweighed average of grades for all courses except Physical Ed. Ranking is reported in numerical rank order, and is weighted with each AP course grade receiving an additional 5 percentage points. All diploma candidates are ranked.
